February 4, 2005: A Fire at Hepburn-Lycoming School

Around 2:30 pm on a very sunny Friday Station 15 was dispatched to a reported brush fire located behind the Hepburn-Lycoming Elementary School.

Chief Jeffrey Tempesco arrived on the scene and observed that a few large landscapers blankets were on fire. The blankets were on a bank just to the rear of the construction site behind the school. The construction crew reacted quickly and did an excellent job of containing the fire.

Chief Tempesco requested that Tanker 15 respond from the Station. Upon arrival the fire was mostly under control. A master stream device mounted to the front of the Tanker was used to completely wet down the bank's surface.

The fire was ignited by sparks from a saw which was being used to cut metal.

A few pictures are below.

If you look close in the above picture, you will see Assistant Chief Stephen Schon way up the bank mopping up some hot spots. Chief Jeffrey Tempesco is located at the foot of the bank talking with a construction crew member.
