April 10, 2006: Truck fire on Route 15 south of Beauty's Run Road

Early this morning Station 15 was dispatched on a mutual aid assignment to Route 15 just south of Beauty's Run Road. A horriffic crash had occurred. A Porsche was traviling southbound in the northbound lane when a Bellefonte area bulk carrier 18 wheeler was traveling northbound. They impacted resulting in a tremendous collision. The Porsche and the tractor trailer both erupted in flames. Explosions were heard by many nearby residents.

Engine 14-1 responded to this incident and found the Porsche on fire and handled that incident. The first due apparatus from Hepburn Twp. was Tanker 15. Tanker 15 was directed to extinguish the truck fire.

Upon arrival Tanker 15 found the cab of the truck totally involved. After observing no placards and the fact that only the cab was involved, the Tanker crew attacked the truck fire. The fire was quickly knocked down. After Engine 14 arrived on this scene, Engine 14 applied a foam blanket on the knocked down fire to keep it from flaming up. Throughout all of this, the various departments responding worked very well together.
